“One thing that impacts our happiness at work is our bosses. You can and have a responsibility to manage your boss.”
-Jennifer Chapman

Jennifer Chapman used to be a workaholic, known as the go-to person for getting things done and managing the most difficult clients at a Fortune 500 consulting firm. When her own mental and physical health began to suffer, she decided to create a new professional and personal life that aligned with what she valued most.

She is an expert leadership coach, working with STEM managers and leaders who want to increase productivity and performance by strengthening their confidence and people skills. She especially enjoys helping leaders who have been promoted through functional expertise embrace their roles as people leaders.

Jennifer knows what it is like to live as a high achiever in a corporate culture. She almost lost sense of normal pleasing her bosses and aiming for that wonderful performance review. Now, she helps STEM leaders feel empowered.

We start the discussion on how you can actually manage your manager by making it about them. Let them know how what you are proposing is good for them, similar to serving a customer, for those in tech sales. Then, we discussed the importance of setting up your own success metrics. It is important to respect your boundaries and at the end of the day make sure you are making yourself happy.

Jennifer and Nicole also discussed how important it is to set and maintain boundaries at the workplace and at home. We leave the conversation on a high note. We discuss the power of presence. In a fast paced world post-Covid, it is easy to wait for things to open up or wish they were never disrupted. However, what matters is that we focus on what we can control. Be present. That was the most impactful part of the show and a great reminder to us all.

On this episode we learn:

💪 Managing your boss

💪 Creating your own success metrics

💪 Leading with empathy

💪 Being present

💪 Controlling your life
